Who is QueenBeth?
Trying to present oneself in a written bio is a useless exercise. When I was in college, one of my professors gave me an assignment to write an autobiography. I dutifully recorded my life in 9 handwritten pages, thinking I had revealed everything. When she handed it back, she told me that my autobiography didn't reveal much about myself.
So, I'll give you an even shorter version here.
I was born in an army hospital in South Carolina. I lived in 5 cities and 3 states before I was five, then my dad left the army and my family returned to Texas. I grew up in a suburb of Dallas - 15 miles north was downtown, and 15 miles south was the sticks. This geography is a perfect metaphor for my upbringing. Some members of my family are culturally literate while others bemoan how that "art crap" takes up too much of my time. Some hold doctorates, while others are self-educated. Some are world travelers, whereas others would never want to leave the Republic of Texas. Some are vegetarians, while others serve entire Thanksgiving dinners of meat they shot themselves.
So where am I? Right in the middle. I love Texas, but I'm always ready to travel at a moment's notice. My country music collection sits next to my classical music collection which is next to the 60s soul music and the lounge CDs. Sometimes I feel a little schizophrenic, but always I am thankful for the people who influenced who I am.
And I didn't even mention the aunt who started me on sci-fi and Star Trek...
